Draft night brings blockbuster trade

The Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets worked out a blockbuster trade on draft night that will send Paul Pierce, Jason Terry and Kevin Garnett to New Jersey for MarShon Brooks, Kris Joesph, Keith Bogans, Gerald Wallace, the expiring contract of Kris Humphries, and three first round draft picks (2014, 2016, 2018). Lightning buy out LeCavalier

The Tampa Bay Lightning are expected to buy out Vincent LeCavalier making him an unrestricted free-agent. LeCavlier has played his entire 14 year NHL career in Tampa Bay racking up 1,037 games, 383 goals, 491 assists, 874 points, and 746 penalty minutes. The compliance buyout gets LeCavalier’s contract off of Tampa’s cap hit, and that cap hit next season would have been north of $7.7M.

Alfredsson to return to Sens for another season

Daniel Alfredsson has confirmed to TSN insider Darren Dreger that he will return to the Senators for the 2013-2014 season. Alfredsoon is going to return for his 18th NHL season, in his first 17 seasons he has played 1178 games while tallying 426 goals, 682 assists, 1108 points, and 500 penalty minutes.

Letang, Penguins can’t agree on extension

Also according to TSN out of Canada is that the Pittsburgh Penguins and defenseman Kris Letang are having trouble coming to an agreement. According to Pierre LeBrun who also works for ESPN’s web site, Letang turned down a 8 year, $56 M contract from the Penguins and counter offered the Penguins with a long term deal with a salary figuring to be slightly north of $7.5M per season which is only $500,000+ more than the Penguins had offered.

If Letang’s greed gets in the way the report also said that Letang’s first trade choice would be the Toronto Maple Leafs. But if you’re a Penguins fan, I wouldn’t worry about that, I don’t think that the deal won’t get done. Letang is too important to the Penguins.

Hernandez denied bail in bail review hearing in MA

Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was denied bail in a bail review hearing in Fall River, MA on Thursday. Hernandez was denied because Honor Rene Dupuis considered Hernandez a flight risk with substantial means to do so and denied him bail.

In other news relating to the case, Hernandez is now being looked into as a possible suspect in a double murder in Boston that happened on July 16, 2012. Details of that investigation are little to nothing to this point.
