NHL Games to Watch; November 9th
Edmonton Oilers @ Philadelphia Flyers 1 PM (S-Net West/CSN Philly/NHL Network-US)
Why am I putting a game with two teams with bad records on the list? Simple, I think both teams have talent but have yet to take off. The Flyers interestingly seem to be throwing Ray Emery in net a lot the last week, so it would seem they want to ride his skill set which kind of makes me scratch my head since they traded for Steve Mason last year and have seemed to give up on him already. At least with the Oilers they’re will to let Devin Dubynk work out his issues, but I guess he is the only one in Edmonton but still I like the commitment. I think this is going to be a good match up though, both teams have something they want to prove.
Toronto Maple Leafs @ Boston Bruins 7 PM (CBC/NESN/NHL Network-US)
After a great playoff series last year the Leafs and Bruins face off for the first time this season. The Bruins broke Toronto’s fans hearts last year in game seven of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals coming back from a 4-2 in the final 2 minutes only to win it in overtime. I am sure the Leafs will be bringing the heat and it should be an awesome game with both teams trying to prove something especially since they’re both so close in the standings at this point. Points do matter at all times in the season.
Pittsburgh Penguins @ St. Louis Blues 8 PM (Root Sports PIT/FS-MW)
Both teams are off to fast starts, and this game will feature two of the points leaders in the league with Sidney Crosby and the surprising Alexander Steen. These teams both like to play physical so there could be some fisticuffs.
