New Jersey Shocker, Kovalchuk Retires
Ilya Kovalchuk has stunned the hockey world by announcing his retirement today, Kovalchuk leaves $77M on the table, and even more important he is only 30 years old. He had 417 goals, 399 assists and 816 points in 816 career games. He also added 11 goals and 16 assists in 32 career playoff games. He was in the league for 11 seasons.
Kovalchuk represented Russia at three Olympic Winter Games, nine World Championships, one World Junior Championship and the 2004 World Cup.
Bruins ink Rask to 8 year extension
The Boston Bruins inked goalie Tuukka Rask to an 8 year deal with an average annual cap hit of $7M. Rask started last season for the Bruins posting a 19-10-5 record with a 2.00 GAA and a .929 Saves% with 5 shutouts during the regular season and a 14-8 record in the playoffs with a 1.88 GAA and a .940 Saves% with 3 shutouts.
Perron dealt to Oilers
The St. Louis Blues traded winger David Perron to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for winger Magnus Paavarvi and a second round pick in 2014.
Canucks to host Senators in Heritage Classic
The Vancouver Canucks and the Ottawa Senators will play in the 2014 Heritage Classic at BC Place. The game will be sponsored by Tim Horton’s and will be played on March 2, 2014.
